Charcoal architectural asphalt shingle roof replacement by Right Away Construction on a Twin Cities family home with gray shake and lap siding

You get one shot to replace a roof correctly

A roof replacement isn’t a small job. It’s the most important barrier between your family and Minnesota’s hail, wind, ice, and rain. Do it once, do it right, and the rest of your home stays protected for decades. Cut corners, and you pay for it again far sooner than you should.

Here’s the truth other companies won’t tell you: on an average street, most new roofs look the same on day one. The difference is everything you can’t see: the flashing, the underlayment, the order it was installed in, and whether anyone took the extra fifteen minutes at the spots that fail first. That hidden work is exactly where we go the extra mile, and it’s why a Right Away roof outlasts a corner-cut one.

We sit fairly in the middle of the market, where the price actually buys premium materials, careful installation, and real service.

For 30 years, we built this business by referral, which is the reason you won’t find hundreds of online reviews yet. We never had to ask. Now we’re opening to the Twin Cities, and we’d like the chance to earn yours.

What a Right Away Roof Replacement Includes

A true roof replacement (also called a re-roof or new roof) means removing everything down to the wood deck and rebuilding the entire roofing system in the correct order. Not a layover. Not a patch. A complete, watertight system:

Most replacements take just 2-3 days, and you don’t need to be home, though we’ll want access to water and power. We watch the weather the entire time and protect your landscaping, siding, windows, gutters, decks, and driveway as if they were our own.

The Right Away Process

Four calm stages, always communicated at every step.  This is why you’re never left guessing and never chasing us for an answer. The added care doesn’t add time because our experience, prep, and checklists keep the job moving.

1. Discovery - your free roof evaluation

It starts with a phone call and a roof evaluation. We learn your situation, your timeline, and what matters most to you, then we inspect, photograph, and show you exactly what we found. If a repair will do, we’ll tell you. Free for homeowners who have a reason to replace.

2. Acceptance - a clear, honest proposal

You get a detailed proposal in plain language. It always includes what we’ll do, what we’ll use (down to the shingle brand), the timeline, and the price. We simplify the decisions and only ask you to choose what truly needs choosing now. No pressure, ever.

3. Preparation - permits, materials & scheduling

We pull the permit (you should never have to), order your materials, schedule the crew, and handle the paperwork, including lien waivers that protect you. You’ll know what’s happening and when, in the channel you prefer: phone, text, or email.

4. Production - installation done correctly

Property protected, old roof off, deck checked, new system installed with extra care at the fail-points, site swept with magnets, and a final walkthrough with your documents. Then we’re still here, for the life of this home and the next.

Shingles & Roofing Systems

We install the best materials your budget allows, because heavier, thicker shingles are the single best value on a roof: roughly a 20-50% increase in shingle cost can nearly double your roof’s expected life.

Asphalt shingles (our flagship) from Owens Corning, GAF, and CertainTeed, with TAMKO as a solid mid-market option. We also install the full lifetime category: metal, stone-coated steel, cedar shake, synthetic slate, and newly quarried natural slate, all installed with modern, up-to-code methods, plus flat and low-slope systems. (See Lifetime Roofs – metal & synthetic slate; a dedicated Asphalt Shingle Roofing page is coming ⟢.)

Color & curb appeal: we’ll help you choose based on what actually looks good on your home and street, show you real examples, and, if you want, superimpose colors so you can see it before you commit. Your new roof can be a third of your home’s curb appeal.

Storm, Hail & Insurance Claims

Minnesota gets hail, wind, and the occasional tornado, and storm damage is the most common reason a roof needs replacing before its time. If you think a storm hit your roof, this is where 30 years of experience pays off.

We inspect honestly and tell you whether you actually have damage. If you do, we document it the way carriers need to see it, communicate with your adjuster, and if an insurer won’t cooperate…  we connect you with experienced public adjusters who work for you. Our job is to get your roof properly restored, not just paid out and forgotten.

What we will never do: create or inflate a claim, play games with your deductible, or do anything fraudulent. If a contractor offers to “cover” your deductible, treat it as a red flag for everything else they do. We keep it clean and legal as a commitment to doing all things correctly that matter when producing a high-quality finished product, your roof.  That’s what makes us the safer choice after a storm.

Repair or Replace? Here's the Honest Math

Not every roof needs replacing, and we’ll be the first to say so. The decision comes down to simple math: what your roof would cost to replace today, versus how many good years it has left.

If your roof has real, useful life remaining, a correct repair can be the smartest money you spend. But once aging is widespread, the deck is compromised, or repair costs start approaching the price of a new roof, replacement is the better investment. We’ll walk the numbers with you – even when the answer is “you don’t need us yet.”

What Does a Roof Replacement Cost in Minneapolis?

Every roof is different, so every roof is priced after we see it, but you shouldn’t have to guess. Here’s honest, real-world guidance for the Twin Cities:

Reference

Typical range*

Full home (normal to large)

$10,000 – $45,000

Per “square” (100 sq ft), mid-market

~$750 – $1,100

What drives the price

Roof size & pitch, number of layers, decking condition, shingle grade, ventilation & code upgrades

How long it lasts (MN)

~18 – 25+ years; longer with premium shingles

Time on site

2 – 3 days for most homes

\Ranges are for planning only… you’ll get a firm, itemized number after your evaluation. A roof’s real area is larger than your home’s footprint because of pitch and overhangs, which is why a quote over the phone is only ever a ballpark.*

Financing available. We work with a third-party partner to get you the lowest rate you qualify for — so a premium roof fits a monthly budget. Just ask. (Financing page coming ⟢ — until it’s live, the button reads “Ask About Financing” → `/contact/`.)

Roof Replacement FAQ

Most full-home roof replacements in the Twin Cities run between $10,000 and $45,000, depending on size, pitch, the number of existing layers, decking condition, and the shingles you choose. Mid-market pricing lands around $750–$1,100 per square. You’ll get a firm, itemized price after a free evaluation, no surprises.

It usually comes down to age, appearance, and leaks. Asphalt roofs in Minnesota typically last 18–25+ years. Watch for missing or curling shingles, lots of granules in the gutters, rusted or missing vents and flashing, or any active leak. The surest way to know is a professional evaluation; we’ll always tell you whether you need a replacement or just a repair.

Most homes are done in 2-3 days, weather permitting. We watch the forecast the entire time and protect your home and landscaping throughout.

Yes – free for homeowners who have a reason to replace their roof. (Inspections for insurance, home sales, or commercial buildings are typically paid.)

Yes, ethically. We document storm and hail damage the way carriers require, communicate with your adjuster, and can connect you with public adjusters when needed. We can’t give legal advice or do anything fraudulent, and we never will.

Yes – licensed and insured in Minnesota (lic. # BC630708), GAF-certified, and bondable for larger projects. We always pull the permit; you should never have to.

We remove it. A Right Away roof replacement is a full tear-off down to the deck so we can inspect the wood and rebuild the entire system correctly. We don’t do layovers.

We replace it to code. If your roof and home are older, expect some decking work. We’ll show you what we find and explain it before we proceed. No hidden change orders.

We prefer Owens Corning, GAF, and CertainTeed, with TAMKO as a mid-market option. We also install metal, stone-coated steel, cedar shake, synthetic slate, and newly quarried natural slate – all with modern, up-to-code methods. We’ll recommend the best system for your home and budget.

Absolutely, from bold to natural. We’ll help you choose based on what looks right on your home, and can superimpose colors so you can see it first.

No. Many homeowners prefer not to be, because of the noise. We do need access to water and power, and we’ll arrange property access with you ahead of time.

A standard workmanship warranty, which covers installation, plus manufacturer warranty options that cover the materials. We often build in protection beyond the minimum. (Exact term: 2 years or more and stated in your proposal.)

Yes. We work with a third-party partner to get you the lowest rate you qualify for, so a premium roof can fit a monthly budget.

For homeowners they’re effectively the same – “installation” is usually a new-construction term, while replacing an existing roof is a re-roof or roof replacement. Either way, we install a complete roofing system.
